Book Review (163): A Job From Hell (Ancient Legends #1) - Jayde Scott

A Job From Hell (Ancient Legends #1)

Publication: 1st May 2011
Publisher: Aurora Press
Pages: 371
Genre: Paranormal
Age Appropriate: Young Adult
In a world of love bonds, rituals, dark magic, ancient enemies and immortals, nothing is as it seems and no one can be trusted.

Seventeen-year-old Amber enters the paranormal world by chance when her brother, Dallas, sets her up with a summer job in Scotland. Dallas has spied something in the woods he thinks could make them rich beyond their wildest dreams. But instead of finding riches, Amber unknowingly enters a paranormal race—and promptly wins the first prize—a prize for which many would kill. Soon, she discovers her new boss, Aidan, didn’t employ her for her astounding housekeeping skills and he isn't who he claims to be either.

As the dark forces slowly conspire against Amber, her naivety and love for Aidan catapults her into a calamitous series of otherworldly events. With every immortal creature hunting for her, whom can she trust with her life?
My Thoughts...
I've had this book sitting on my wishlist for quite a while now so when I got a chance to review it I jumped at the chance.
Any book that has anything paranormal mentioned in the blurb I'm willing to read it and I wasn't disappointed with this book, I liked it so much that I read it in a day.
Amber is 17 and has taken a job over the summer to help with her school fees, helped by her brother she arrives in Scotland to a mansion where she is to be the new housekeeper, her new boss Aidan is only ever around at nighttime, along with his brother and his friends.
One night her brother stops by to tell her that he's spotted some gems in a hut out in the woods and he talks her into stealing them, what Amber doesn't know is that by stealing them she has won a race run by different species of paranormals that only occurs every 500 years, and she has also accquired the ability to see spirits which is the prize for the winner, but because she's human a whole lot of the paranormals are  after her, she discovers that there was a reason why she was hired by Aidan, she is meant to be his destined mate!
I loved all the characters in this book, Amber and Aidan were a cute couple and I loved the alternating pov's in the chapters between these two characters, it always interests me to read both sides of the hero and heroine's story.
Another favourite character of mine was Cassandra, she being Lucifer's daughter she was so lovable and completely opposite of what you would assume she would be like.
This book is dark and full of action, great characterisations and an exciting storyline, and I cannot wait to carry on with the rest of the series.
I give this 4/5.

Mailbox Thursday.

Thursday's Mailbox.
I've decided that I will stop participating in In My Mailbox, the reason being I seem to get a lot of books every week and it takes me forever to put them all together in one post and link them up.
So I will be doing Mailbox Mon-Fri every week.

Official Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Teaser Trailer.

Well here it finally is, I'm still unsure about the casting of Jace, but who knows once I see the movie I might be surprised.
Enjoy!

Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Official Movie Poster.

Cannot wait for this movie, this may just be my new obsession!

Breaking Dawn Part 2 And The WTF Twist!

So it's 2.45am I just got back from the midnight screening, and WOW, what a great ending to this saga, but the twist that's been mentioned by a lot of the actors had me sitting there in the theatre with my jaw hanging open in shock.
I'm not gonna mention whether it's a good or bad shock because it will ruin it, but DAMN, I would never have seen it coming.
I will definitely be seeing this quite a few more times at the movies it's really, really good!
And after sitting through all the credits there was no extra scene so I don't know what Kellan Lutz was talking about.
So please see it, enjoy and let me know your thoughts on the twist, obviously no spoilers in the comments for those who have yet to see it.
A fantastic end to a fantastic saga.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 Midnight Screening.

So I'm wondering how many bloggers out there will be going to the midnight screening?
I will be there, I'm pretty excited but I'm also a bit sad knowing this will be the last ever Twilight movie.
I'm also a bit apprehensive about the change at the end, Breaking Dawn was my least favourite book of the series and I never liked the ending in the book so I'm wondering what this surprise twist will be, as long as no main characters are killed off.
And for those of you who don't know, stay after the credits Kellan Lutz has said in an interview that there's an extra scene that will appear.
Excited? Not Excited?
Let me know, and for all of you going to the midnight screening or whom are just going the day it's released or another day, I hope you enjoy it as much as I hope to.

Book Review (162): Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1) - Jamie McGuire

Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1)

Publication: 14th August 2012
Publisher: Simon And Schuster
Pages: 416
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age Appropriate: New Adult
Price: $17.99
INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
My Thoughts...
Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow!
This book was amazing!
I've had extremely good luck with the Contemporary Romances I've read this year, this is usually a genre I steer clear of but I'm really starting to re-think that idea given the fantastic ones that I've read recently, this book has been on my wishlist for quite a while now but because of the genre I've shied away from actually purchasing it, and then I received a copy for review and I kept hearing so many good things about it that I finally gave in and read it and boy was I blown away!
I love the whole bad boy/good girl storyline, and Travis Maddox, there are just no words to describe how much I love him, bad boy or not he has the charisma and charm to knock your socks off and Abby is the perfect foil for his character.
Because of the terrific characterisations this was an extremely hard book to put down once I picked it up, it was addictive, and I grew to care so much for the characters I didn't want to leave their world for one minute.
Travis fights in a fight ring, reknowned for his fighting abilities, numerous tattoos, his way with the ladies and his reputation for one night stands, he is far from Abby's type, the complete opposite, she becomes friends with him through her best friend's boyfriend who happens to be Travis' cousin and they make a bet, if she loses she has to move into his apartment with him for 30 days, if he loses he has to remain celibate for the same amount of time.
They soon become close friends, but their feelings for each other soon change, but will a relationship between them be for the better or just tear them both apart?
This book had me laughing out loud, giddy with excitement and in a flood of tears, it's just that good, even if Contemporary isn't your thing just give this a chance, I did and I'm so happy that I did.
I cannot wait for the next book Walking Disaster, which is Beautiful Disaster from Travis' pov, I cannot wait I'm so excited and the cover is gorgeous!

See what I mean, I love this cover!
I give this a huge 5/5.
A big Thanks To Caroline @ Simon And Schuster Australia.
