Cover Reveal & Giveaway: Shudder (Stitch Trilogy #2) - Samantha Durante

Shudder (Stitch Trilogy #2)

It's only been three days, and already everything is different.

Paragon is behind her, but somehow Alessa's life may actually have gotten worse. In a wrenching twist of fate, she traded the safety and companionship of her sister for that of her true love, losing a vital partner she'd counted on for the ordeal ahead. Her comfortable university life is but a distant memory, as she faces the prospect of surviving a bleak winter on the meager remains of a ravaged world. And if she'd thought she'd tasted fear upon seeing a ghost, she was wrong; now she's discovering new depths of terror while being hunted by a deadly virus and a terrifying pack of superhuman creatures thirsting for blood.

And then there are the visions.

The memory-altering "stitch" unlocked something in Alessa's mind, and now she can't shake the constant flood of alien feelings ransacking her emotions. Haunting memories of an old flame are driving a deep and painful rift into her once-secure relationship. And a series of staggering revelations about the treacherous Engineers - and the bone-chilling deceit shrouding her world's sorry history - will soon leave Alessa reeling...

The second installment in the electrifying Stitch Trilogy, Shudder follows Samantha Durante's shocking and innovative debut with a heart-pounding, paranormal-dusted dystopian adventure sure to keep the pages turning.

(ARC) Book Review (221): Between The Lives - Jessica Shirvington

Between the Lives

Publication: 1st May 2013
Publisher: Harper Collins Australia
Pages: 336
Genre: Contemporary
Age Appropriate: Young Adult

Above all else, though I try not to think about it, I know which life I prefer. And every night when I Cinderella myself from one life to the next a very small, but definite, piece of me dies. The hardest part is that nothing about my situation has ever changed. There is no loophole.

Until now, that is...

For as long as she can remember, Sabine has lived two lives. Every 24 hours she Shifts to her ′other′ life - a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she′s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she′s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

With this new knowledge, Sabine begins a series of increasingly risky experiments which bring her dangerously close to the life she′s always wanted... But just what - and who - is she really risking?

My Thoughts...
Wow, this book was absolutely amazing, one of the best books of the year!

A fast paced, emotion-packed story of a girl named Sabine who's stuck living two alternate lives, (every 24 hours at midnight she swaps lives) in one life she's a rich kid with two brothers and in the other her parents work 24/7 to save money for Sabine and her sisters college education.

Resigned to living her life or lives this way, it's not until she breaks her arm in one of them that she discovers that it didn't cross over into the next one, which then starts her experiments in injuring herself on purpose to see the outcome.

And then she meets Ethan, and through this emotionally devastating friendship/relationship she realises that what she thought she wanted isn't really what she wanted or needed all along and that it's up to her to make herself happy by doing what she wants to do and not just what's expected of her.

Through the heart-wrenching ending which had me in tears is a fantastic and unique novel which just begs to be read over and over again.

This is the first book that I've read of Jessica's and it sure won't be the last, I can't express enough how much I loved this book.

Highly recommended, everybody needs to read this.

I give this 5/5.

A Big Thanks To Harper Collins Australia.

(ARC) Book Review (220): Strangelets - Michelle Gagnon

Strangelets

Publication: 9th April 2013
Publisher: Soho Teen
Pages: 288
Genre: Dystopian
Age Appropriate: Young Adult
17-year-old Sophie lies on her deathbed in California, awaiting the inevitable loss of her battle with cancer…
17-year-old Declan stares down two armed thugs in a back alley in Galway, Ireland…
17-year-old Anat attempts to traverse a booby-trapped tunnel between Israel and Egypt…

All three strangers should have died at the exact same moment, thousands of miles apart. Instead, they awaken together in an abandoned hospital—only to discover that they’re not alone. Three other teens from different places on the globe are trapped with them. Somebody or something seems to be pulling the strings. With their individual clocks ticking, they must band together if they’re to have any hope of surviving.

Soon they discover that they've been trapped in a future that isn't of their making: a deadly, desolate world at once entirely familiar and utterly strange. Each teen harbors a secret, but only one holds the key that could get them home. As the truth comes to light through the eyes of Sophie, Declan, and Anat, the reader is taken on a dark and unforgettable journey into the hearts of teens who must decide what to do with a second chance at life.
My Thoughts...
This book had such a unique and exciting storyline, a very fresh and intriguing premise that had me guessing until the very end as to what was actually going on (I never did come up with the answer, which was refreshing).

Six teens on their deathbed or only seconds from death find themselves awakening inside of a hospital, with no idea where they are or who put them there, they are distrustful of each other but come to realise that to escape and to figure out what is going on they need to band together if they have any hope at all of getting back to where they came from.

So through the alternating chapters told through the eyes of Sophie, Declan and Anat we get to see their different stories and versions of what is taking place around them.

Once they eventually escape the hospital, they enter into a world completely different to when they each left it, there are no other humans around and the city that they find themselves in has been destroyed as if a large earthquake had hit, on the run from unknown creatures that seem intent on capturing them for their next meals they must find a way to keep one step ahead of the creatures whilst trying to find a way back home, but when a traitor is discovered amongst them some of them might not make it out of there alive.

A very entertaining dystopian novel that will keep you guessing until the heart-stopping end.

I give this 3.75/5 Stars.
