Kailin Gow began writing books for tween girls to help them with self-confidence and self-esteem. All her books are inspired by personal experiences. Saving You Saving Me was inspired by her experience as a peer counselor for young women during college and from her psychology major college roommate's experience being in a relationship similar to the one portrayed by Sam and Collins in the book. Loving Summer was inspired by Kailin's experience growing up with a family consisting of a mother, two sons, and a daughter who went through a similar experience of tragedy in the book. Aunt Sookie is based on herself and some actor friends she knows. The Frost Series, Circus of Curiosities Series, and FADE Series came about through vivid dreams. Never Say Never was inspired by Kailin's experience as a radio host and working with and interviewing bands, as well as having college friends who were in bands. Kailin also played the drums and keyboard for a band she once started. A classically-trained musician, she was once led her school orchestra, playing first chair violin. Her experience in the music world and her love of Phantom of the Opera, inspired the Phantom Diaries. PULSE was inspired when Kailin was in the hospital suffering from heavy blood loss post surgery and needed several bags of blood to survive (like a vampire). Beautiful Beings was inspired by her college encounter with a young demon exorcist. A pastor once told her she had the gift of sight and that she was destined to become a prolific author, many times over.
She began taking her writing seriously when her daughter was diagnosed as being on the spectrum and her mother was fighting three types of cancer. Four years later, her daughter was no longer on the spectrum, and her mother became cancer free. Kailin believes in hope and miracles, after having been through several struggles and experiences herself. This is why she writes.
When not busy inhaling chocolate and drinking coffee by the gallon, Kailin makes time for writing fantasy books, blogging as an expert blogger for Fast Company, volunteering as an Emergency Responder and volunteering for battered women's shelters. For fun, she plays the electric violin, and puts together a music playlist for her radio and web shows.

Monday's Mailbox... I've decided that I will stop participating in In My Mailbox, the reason being I seem to get a lot of books every week and it takes me forever to put them all together in one post and link them up. So I will be doing Mailbox Mon-Fri every week.

When her father disappears it is a race against time to find answers before she loses what’s left of her family. Now Chloe must choose who to trust, the man who will do anything for her or the one she can’t stop thinking about. My Thoughts... You know the saying 'don't judge a book by it's cover', well I was guilty of doing that with this book, but inside was a fast-paced, highly entertaining story that I did not want to put down. I love it when you come across a new book/series that you fall in love with. The lead heroine Chloe is a kick-ass character with her straight -up no nonsense talk and her ability to stick up for herself and those she loves. Living with her Dad after her Mum deserted them when Chloe was little, she soon discovers that she can create doorways from out of nowhere and has the ability to walk through a doorway and have it take her anywhere she wants to go, within reason. She finds out that not only do both of her parents but also her families on both sides have the same/similiar abilities. Chloe is sent to Paladin Academy, to learn about her gifts and how to control them, while there se makes some new friends and is reunited with long lost family whom she hasn't seen since her Mother's disappearance. But when her Dad goes missing,Chloe with the help of her new friends take it upon themselves to save him from the New Kind, a new threat who want to take over the council and rule their society. An amazing start to what appears to be a very addictive series. I give this 5/5.

My Thoughts...
I think that I may like this book better than the first one, I say may but they are both such extremely good reads that it's hard to say for sure.
Although Chloe is now dating Slade, she is still undeniably drawn to Nightshade, but he is ignoring her while spending all his time with their friends when she's not around, even Slade and they normally can't stand each other.
With her Father reinstated back into the Society and working to find some old artifacts before the New Kind do, Chloe is keeping a big secret from him and all her friends, the reappearance of her Mother and the fact that she is now working for the New Kind.
But when one of her friends is kidnapped by the New Kind they will only let the person go if and when they are given the newly found artifact, in the fight to survive one of Chloe's friends is tragically lost through sacrificing themselves for her, and oh my god did I cry, there's just no words to describe how upsetting it was, I'm kind of hoping that the person miraculously survived, PLEASE!!
After the ending Im very excited to continue on with this series to see where it goes, I highly recommend both books.
