Convinced she’s a part of the witness protection program, sixteen-year-old Jewel Rose is shuffled around the globe with her family like a pack of traveling gypsies. After arriving at lucky home twenty-seven, she stumbles upon a mysterious boy with magical powers claiming to be her guardian... and warning of imminent danger. Despite the obvious sparks between them, Jewel discovers a relationship is forbidden, and the more she learns about dark, brooding Roman, she begins to question who she can even believe—the family who raised her, or the supposed sworn protector who claims they’ve been lying to her all along.
As she struggles to uncover who her family has really been running from, she is forced to hide her birthmark that reveals who she is. With new realities surfacing, unexplained powers appearing, and two tempting boys vying for her heart, Jewel battles to learn who she can trust in an ever growing sea of lies, hoping she’ll make it through her seventeenth birthday alive.

My Thoughts...
First of all let me start with the cover, it is absolutely gorgeous, I'm hoping that a paperback version will be released so I can have the pretty on my bookshelf, whomever came up with this cover needs a gold star.
I loved the fact that this book is a stand-alone and that everything is resolved at the end, no questions left unanswered, no loose ends and a perfect ending to a fantastic book.
Jewel is a sixteen year old girl who with her family are in the witness protection program, never staying long in any one place, but what she doesn't know is that she is the reason for the constant moving, and the birthmark that she has on her shoulder is never allowed to be seen by anyone other than her immediate family, you see Jewel is a very important person whom is wanted by people the world over, but when she finds out just why that is, it will change her life forever.
Of course what's a YA novel without some gorgeous guys, Roman whom is Italian and also as he informs her her Guardian, which is pretty much another word for a bodyguard, a hot one at that, and finally Chase, the popular boy at school who is interested in Jewel as well
There is never a dull moment in this story, I loved every moment and it was a shame when it came to an end, this will definitely be a re-read for me and I will be looking out for further Shannon Duffy books.
I give this 5/5.
Thanks Sarah for the 5-star review. We're thrilled that you enjoyed Shannon's book :)
