The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden #1)

Publication: 1st May 2012
Publisher: Harlequin Books Australia www.harlequinbooks.com.au
Pages: 451
Genre: Paranormal/Dystopian
Age Appropriate: Young Adult
Price: Book Stores Nationally RRP: AU $19.99/NZ $22.99
In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
My Thoughts.
This book has been on my radar for quite a while now, what struck me first was the concept so original and fresh and then when the cover was released, well let me just say that it got me even more excited.
I loved the mesh of paranormal and dystopian it made this such an exciting and addictive read.
Definitely plan on having some sleepless nights, because you wont be able to put this book down!
We start off with Allison 'Allie' an unregistered flying under the radar trying not to attract attention to herself and her gang from the Prince Vampire head of her city New Covington and the Master vampires under his rule.
The vampires rule and humans are their blood cattle, but not only are they trying to stay away from them but also the rabids who attack anything and can turn you into one of them with just one bite.
Food is scarce and the days are spent trying to track down any kind of food source, and it's one day while Allie is searching she finds a hidden cellar filled with canned foods, after coming back with the rest of her gang and loading up with supplies they are set upon by a bunch of rabids and Allie is bitten, close to death a vampire finds her and asks her whether she wants to die or become a vampire herself, although she loathes them she agrees to be turned, and after waking up she's introduced to the world of the vampires by her sire Kanin.
I have to say I love Kanin I was hoping a relationship would develop between him and Allie, I loved their banter and I think although he didn't show it that he might have developed feelings for her especially after he made sure she got away when he was attacked, please, please, please let there be more of him in the next book.
After wandering around for a while she comes across a lost boy Caleb in a deserted city and while trying to find his sister comes across not only her but a boy named Zeke who along with his adoptive father Jeb help run a group of people hoping to find Eden a place that Jeb believes exists.
So while hiding who she is she joins the group and ends up growing closer to Zeke who develops feelings for her, but what happens when he finds out just what she is?
I did really like Zeke but my heart is stuck on a Allie and Kanin relationship, so I'm going to put it out there right now Team Kanin!
Loved this book, I cannot wait for the next, one of my favourite books so far this year.
I give this 5/5.

Shadowland (The Immortals #3)

Feature And Follow Friday (25).

Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then “broke up” with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.

This has never happened to me but I used to hate Jacob in the Twilight books but thanks to Taylor Lautner in the movies, I quite like him now, so yeah I've had the opposite happen.

Blue Moon (The Immortals #2)

Publication: 7th July 2009
Publisher: St Martin's Press
Pages: 289
Genre: Fantasy
Age Appropriate: Young Adult
**Warning Contains Spoilers From The First Book**
Just as Ever is learning everything she can about her new abilities as an immortal, initiated into the dark, seductive world by her beloved Damen, something terrible is happening to him.  As Ever’s powers are increasing, Damen’s are fading—stricken by a mysterious illness that threatens his memory, his identity, his life.

Desperate to save him, Ever travels to the mystical dimension of Summerland, uncovering not only the secrets of Damen’s past—the brutal, tortured history he hoped to keep hidden—but also an ancient text revealing the workings of time. With the approaching blue moon heralding her only window for travel, Ever is forced to decide between turning back the clock and saving her family from the accident that claimed them—or staying in the present and saving Damen, who grows weaker each day...
My Thoughts.
After absolutely loving the first book in this series I was more than eager to start this second book to see where the story leads and I liked it, not as much as the first book but the storyline was different and we're introduced to some new characters, some good and some not so good.
What I loved most about the first book was the relationship between Ever and Damen and since he was under a spell that left him with pretty much no memory of Ever he thought she was stalking him instead, so I didn't love it like I did the first, take away that relationship and you have Ever sulking around because not only is her boyfriend not having anything to do with her but thanks to the new kid in school Roman even her best friends Miles and Haven are hanging out with the cool kids after Roman put a spell on them too.
And then Roman spends his time trying to come onto Ever, now that Damen is no longer around.
We get a look into Damen's and Ever's pasts and how they met in each one and while Ever is in Summerland (the in-between) she meets thirteen year old twin girls Romy and Rayne who befriended Riley (Ever's dead sister) before she crossed over and Ever is unsure whether to trust them or not which culminates at the end when to save Damen she has to decide whether to trust either Roman or Rayne and the decision she makes affects the following books in the series.
Ever is also betrayed by somebody she thought was a friend and because of her betrayal Damen nearly dies.
I also missed Riley in this book I realise that she's now passed over but I liked the interaction between her and Ever.
But the end was a bit of a shock I can't wait to see how the storyline develops to solve the problem and I want more Ever and Damen time.
Now I'm off to see how the next book goes.
I give this 4/5.
